Shimano Ultegra FC-R8100 Crankset - 2x12-speed

Ultegra R8100 – Leave Time Behind

When developing the Ultegra R8100 series, Shimano took a holistic and 100 % performance-oriented approach, because great speed means great responsibility. Faster than ever before, the 12-speed road groupset scores with unparalleled control and comfort anytime and anywhere – whether in an everyman race, on the hunt for a personal best time or on a companionable ride.

As with the Dura Ace R9200, not only does Hyperglide+ make its way into the Ultegra's components, also its Di2 parts rely on Wireless technology to simplify operation and ensure smooth shifting.

Shimano Ultegra FC-R8100 crankset

As the central element of the 12-speed drivetrain of the Ultegra R8100 series, the FC-R8100 crankset is characterised by the shifting quality and transmission efficiency typical of Shimano. Not only the chainrings which feature a Hollowglide construction, but also the lightweight crank arms which are manufactured using Hollowtech II technology, contribute to optimised power transmission as well as faster and more precise shifting operations.

All this adds up to a perfect balance between stiffness, stability, light weight and rotational efficiency. Numerous crank arm lengths and chainrings with 50-34 or 52-36 teeth also offer variability and an optimal gear ratio for almost every riding situation.

Hollowtech II

The guiding principle of Shimano's Hollowtech II technology is the perfect balance between stiffness, stability, weight and rotational efficiency. The goal was to produce a crank that minimises the effort required for the drive and enables more efficient power transmission.

An exclusive forging process allows the production of extremely light crank arms that nevertheless guarantee maximum stiffness. The fixed connection of the right arm to the axle of the bottom bracket and its external bearing also serve an optimum relationship between stiffness and low weight.
